Abstract

The commitment of Albanians to education and learning in their native language in the period 1878-1912 marked a new phase. During this period, the Albanian intelligentsia abroad founded several associations that supported the opening of schools with instruction in the Albanian language, the printing of textbooks, magazines and newspapers in the Albanian language. The Albanian Renaissance people had concluded that the teaching of the native language is an expression of the existence of the Albanian nation. The largest number of Albanian intellectuals who were part of the national movement for education in the native language were located in the main Balkan and European capitals such as Istanbul, Bucharest, Sofia, Rome, Vienna, etc.
