Abstract
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with a significantly increased risk of thromboembolic events, particularly ischemic stroke. The CHA₂DS₂-VASc score is widely used for stroke risk stratification and represents a cornerstone in clinical decision-making regarding anticoagulation therapy. This paper reviews the structure, pathophysiological mechanisms, and clinical relevance of the score, while also discussing its limitations and integration with HAS-BLED score. Emerging factors such as inflammation, atrial remodeling, and genetic predisposition are also analyzed. Future perspectives focus on personalized medicine and novel anticoagulant strategies.
