Abstract

The purpose of this study is to disclose the relationship between the feeling of loneliness in the workplace and the affective commitment of employees to the organization. Loneliness in the workplace is treated in two dimensions, emotional and social. The study explains one of the most important issues of the work environment, namely organizational psychology. The methodology of this study is non-experimental correlational. The sample of this study consists of 205 purposeful sampled respondents, employees of public and private institutions. The findings show that there is a strong negative relationship between the feeling of loneliness in the workplace and the affective commitment of employees to the organization. Linear regression analysis showed that 37% of affective commitment is explained by loneliness at work. In terms of the relationship between loneliness at work, respectively affective deprivation and social relationships, and affective commitment, the findings show that there is a moderate negative relationship. Meanwhile, a moderate positive relationship was found between the dimensions of loneliness at work. On the other hand, the dimensions of loneliness in the workplace were significant predictors in explaining the variance of affective commitment.
