Abstract
Euphemisms are words or linguistic expressions that are used instead of another word or expression, which we do not want to use or should not be used (e.g. ‘gojëlidhuri’ for "the wolf"; he left us instead of "died" etc.). So, euphemisms are usually called all those words and expressions that substitute the rude and improper words with lighter and softer words and expressions. We find such euphemistic words and expressions in Albanian and other languages, even German. We mainly encounter them in the vernacular, however, recently, due to their widespread use and the importance that they have in communication, they are increasingly becoming an important topic of semantic research, pragmatic linguistics and, in particular, of sociolinguistic researches, meanwhile, in some languages they have become the basic subject of lexicographical works.
