Abstract

Stylistic figures are frequently present and used in literature, prose and poetry. Expressing our thoughts and feelings in prose and poetry often comes rich and naturally to us. As a stylistic figure of poetic utterance, the figure of repetition serves to reinforce or add to the artistic expression, to emphasise and highlight the emotional or psychological state. As for the organisation of the text, it gives rhythm to the prose and the poem. The purpose of this paper is to present the figure of repetition in two poems: Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe and Lutje by Migjeni, two outstanding works by outstanding authors and poets from both Albanian and American literature. The methodology includes a descriptive method for the theoretical framework, and a practical stylistic analysis, where verses are selected and classified according to the type and placement of repetition, presented through tables. The results show that, while Migjeni uses repetition in a more interwoven and powerful way to express inner spiritual revolt, Poe’s poem is characterised by five repeated phrases that create a hypnotic and melancholic effect. Although in different linguistic and cultural contexts, the poets use repetition to deepen the emotional message and to communicate with the reader on a more sensitive and universal level.
