Abstract
This study aims to highlight the relationship between literature and the other. Karl-Markus Gauss, the Austrian writer and critic, traveling and touching the boundaries of time and the past, through descriptions in “literature with the other differently”, brings us, as in a painting with words, the metamorphosis that touches a person when the other appears before his eyes with light and shadow that he has not shown before, with a language that touches other strings within him and that for a moment may seem to him to have a completely different skin from the one he has felt until that moment. Who is the other, the one we deny or the one we accept? The one who stops us on our journey, or the one who extends his hand and makes us understand the journey? Bronislaw Malinowski, Franz Boas, Edward Said, Tzvetan Todorov as anthropologists and philosophers, or Claudio Magris as a writer and philosopher, as well as many, many other anthropologists and philosophers, who have attempted to describe this great light-shadow of the relationship between two or more people, have not been able to come up with an answer. Not even they themselves have just one answer. Meanwhile, history, contacts, literature, ballads, and everything else, which mix like nowhere else like in the Balkans, have their origins precisely in the “Eyes of the Other”. Not simply because “The eyes are our world that comes out of the inner prison to see the unknown”, as Michel Foucault says. But because the eye begins to convey the specialness of the other, which then enters us to take a name from our meditations, from our interior. Karl-Markus Gauss, the Austrian writer and critic, traveling and touching the boundaries of time and the past, through descriptions in "literature with the other different", brings us, as in a painting with words, the metamorphosis that touches a person when the other appears before his eyes with light and shadow that he has not shown before, with a language that touches other strings within him and that for a moment may seem to him to have a completely different skin from the one he has felt until that moment.
