Abstract
National identity is the identity of an individual or the feeling of belonging to one or more states or nations. It is the meaning of "a nation as a cohesive entity, represented by its traditions, culture, and distinct language." National identity includes political and cultural elements. As a collective phenomenon, it can arise from the presence of "shared points" in people's daily lives: national symbols, language, the history of the nation, national consciousness, and cultural artifacts. The sovereign identity of the nation also represents a common denominator for the identification of national culture or cultural identity, and according to international law, any external interference in cultural identity or beliefs and cultural traditions is deemed unacceptable. Any deprivation or external modification of national cultural identity undermines the collective fundamental human rights. Our folk culture cannot be understood without traditional dances, which, generation after generation, have been accompanied by music and their characteristic costumes. Our dances, which are also an important part of our national identity, Dance has been and continues to be part of human culture, an essential part of ceremonies, rituals, celebrations, and entertainments, even before the birth of the earliest human civilizations. Archaeology brings traces of dances from ancient times, particularly engraved in caves. Dances express the artistic values of a people, of a region where they are performed and interpreted. They are connected to work, seasons, weddings, joys, acts of bravery in wars for freedom and independence, and others. These have been, are, and will always be focused on: expressing, preserving, and consolidating the character of our Albanian nation. Like all the dances of the Albanian regions (Northern, Central, and Southern Albania), the Devoll dance of the Devoll region today, in the district of Devoll, The Devoll dance holds a prominent place in Albanian choreographic folklore. It is characterized by strength, masculinity, bravery, a warrior spirit, grandeur, and more. It is mainly performed by men, with fewer women participating, or both together. The Devoll dance is the most beautiful gem, the icon of Devoll. This centuries-old dance was born and will live forever in Devoll. This beautiful dance creates an atmosphere on our stages, with the fustanellas (traditional Albanian skirts) dancing like seagulls in the blue sky, and the Devoll dance shines on every patch of land and on every stage! One of the most beautiful Albanian dances, without a doubt, is the Devoll dance! It is a true gem; do not leave it without learning it! Blessed are those who know how to dance the centuries-old dance of Devoll, the "Devoll Dance"!
