Abstract
Dritero Agolli was an Albanian poet, writer, publicist, and politician. His creative output spans a wide range of genres and forms, including poetry, stories, novels, plays, screenplays, and more, all of which centre on human emotions, customs, nationalism, family, and other themes. Agolli paid particular attention to the female character, believing that women had not been given the credit they deserved in Albanian literature because women and mothers had been sacrificed during the challenging historical journey. The figure of the woman in Agolli's poetic creativity was personified through the mother, sister, daughter, lover, friend, granddaughter, grandmother, wife, and all Albanian women. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to elaborate on Agolli's perception of the personifications mentioned above. The methodology used in this research consists of theoretical and analytical methods including the occasional inclusion of the historical-cultural interpretive method. The figure of the woman was treated in several dimensions: social, cultural, psychological, historical, ethno-folkloric, poetic, and aesthetic. The literature used includes poetic and journalistic works published by Dritero Agolli himself. As a result, we can say that for Agolli, the figure of the woman served as an inspiring muse, aesthetically complementing the elements of beauty, goodness, and the highest social and human virtues. Agolli compares Albanian women to deities, singling out two main qualities in them: will and wisdom.
