Abstract
The literature and intellectual thought of the Albanian National Upheaval developed within an ideational convergence with European literatures and languages. This phenomenon resulted from the extensive territorial space within which Albanian Romantic literature evolved. Spanning three continents, the Upheaval literature established close relations with the cultures it engaged with, thereby constructing a national concept that was not exclusionary toward other cultures but rather a specific phenomenon that can be characterized as cosmopolitan nationalism. Dora D’Istria’s persona, as a cosmopolitan figure from a family of Albanian origin from Parga, residing in Bucharest, expanding her knowledge through Berlin and Vienna, and during her final years in Italy, engaging in active communication with the Arbëresh movement, epitomizes this cultural dialogue between Albanian and European cultures. The focus of this research is her work Kombësia shqiptare sipas këngëve popullore (Albanian National Identity through Folk Songs), offering a multidimensional perspective on the process of nation-building and the myths traditionally associated with this complex 19th-century phenomenon.
