Abstract
The language preserved in the mouths of the people is the wealth of every nation. That is where the mentality lives best, where the culture and traditions of a people are best preserved. Dialects have been and continue to be the primary source for the enrichment of the standard language. Recognizing the significance of dialects, linguists have historically taken care to collect dialectal words and expressions, aiming to protect them from extinction and to provide opportunities for the enrichment of the standard language. In addition to collecting lexical material, dialectal studies have been conducted on the majority of the spoken varieties of both Albanian dialects, leading to the publication of monographs and dialect dictionaries, organization of conferences and publication of their proceedings. The Institute of Albanology in Prishtina, since the establishment of its journal titled “Gjuha shqipe [Albanian Language]” in 1982, has placed significant emphasis on dialectal lexicon within its sections. Consequently, 74 bibliographical entries have been featured in this journal, including hundreds of dialectal terms and phrases that can utilized to enrich the Explanatory Dictionary of Albanian. This paper aims to present parts of the dialectal richness that has been featured in this journal.
