Abstract
The particular focus of this paper is the observation of common words, tracing their presence not only in early written texts, such as Buzuku’s Meshari (1555), but also in Albanian dictionaries, including Frang Bardhi’s dictionary, where a number of words appear that initially functioned as ordinary lexical units and later evolved into terms. Likewise, later dictionaries—both general and terminological—are also taken into consideration in this analysis. In this paper, particular attention is given to the process of forming terms from common words within technical terminologies (mechanics, electricity, construction). The influence of scientific and technical language on the general literary language is expected to grow stronger in the future, as science and its language increasingly play a decisive role in the overall development of culture. Under the impact of these factors, the terminological lexicon and the general lexicon are drawing closer together, with the intellectualized lexicon - present in both macro-layers—serving as a unifying foundation.
