Abstract
Cultural studies, based on cultural productions and the way cultural identities are constructed and function, also include literary studies, since culture considers and examines literature as a particular social practice. Albanian literature, like any other literature, needs interliterary and intercultural communication, but above all it needs intracultural communication as the only possibility to better know itself and to present itself to others. Preserving the national spirit and sense allows every literature to maintain its distinctive voice in interliterary and intercultural communication. Being an active part of the process of creating meaning in culture, literature has the possibility, through literary works, to avoid stereotyping by playing an important role in achieving ethical and social goals and by demonstrating its advantages compared to the projections offered by other discourses. Albanian literature plays a very important role in imagological processes, since the image it offers of the “other” differs significantly from the one that Western Europeans have created about the Balkans and for the Balkans. In the circumstances of globalization, literature as an art, just like culture in general, gains a new connotation in which cultural intercommunication becomes a necessity.
