Abstract

Traditions as a starting point, intertext and content of Albanian literary works, have been present in many Albanian authors’ works. Myths, customs, traditions, laws that are essential parts of their moral codes, have been artistically incorporated by the prominent author of Albanian literary works, Ismail Kadare. Prilli i thyer, as a monumental work, embodies the Albanian life justified by the customs and traditions codified by the Kanun of Lekë Dugagjini. The Kanun, as a customary norm, was the constitution and supreme institution of social existencefor centuries. Defined by strict rules, the codeensured the normative functioning of Albanian life in the northern part of Albania, but also in other parts of Albania and outside Albania. Being for a long time indisputable and functional, it became the object of study and motif of artistic creations, especially in the contemporary period. The work that we will analyze is a very genuine segment of the study on the Albanian tradition held by the Kanun, but presented artistically where through the narrative and the characters, a clear picture of such context is created. The paper will be structured in three parts and the theory of intertextuality will be applied, intertwined with comparative and analytical methods.
