Abstract

The aim of this paper is the treatment of Albanistic studies, in which Kolec Topalli presented and summarized the historical issues of the Albanian accent. His monographic studies have become frequent after the 1980s, especially after the publication of study “The accent in the Albanian language” (1995). The analysis of the Albanian accent according to Topalli’s views is divided into two parts: the accent of the word and of the sentence. In addition to these, the research is based on the author’s work on the movement of the Albanian accent, which is called themechanic regulation of the accent. Although other linguists have thought that the place of the accent in the Albanian words cannot be presented with a general rule (Dodi 1970, 2004), or can rely on the rules, constraints (Optimality Theory) and other principles, however Topalli’s contribution in the field of Albanian accent history has brought valuable data.
