Abstract

This paper presents an attempt to analyze some rigid somatic expressions, or in other words, expressions which contain names of body parts, in Albanian and French. Through the usage of contrastive analysis, we will highlight the semantic similarities and differences that exist between these expressions as well as their equivalences arising from the actions of the two cultural contexts. Such expressions are numerous in both languages. The human body, with its parts, is one of the most eligible fields of phraseological studies. In the group of rigid expressions, almost all parts of the body are presented, from the head to toe. Through the terms that permeate his body, man seeks the means to express the various aspects of life such as intellectual, material, social and cultural. The connection between language and culture is realized through the cultural motivation of phraseological expressions. For this exact reason, we are determined to establish the corpus for this study by selecting a certain number of phraseological expressions, namely rigid expressions, in particular those related to the specific cultural reality of the French and Albanian people, or more specifically, expressions with socio-cultural and affective connotation, which we have extracted from various lexicographical sources.
